HB 91, authored by Duluth lawmaker Brooks Coleman, was signed into law Monday.
The measure retroactively eliminates any tests that are no longer required for students to graduate from high school, including the Georgia High School Graduation Test. The graduation test requirement was eliminated in 2011.
In a news release, School District spokesman Gordon Higgins said Yosselyn Carcamo, a former Lanier Charter Career Academy (LCCA) student, immediately petitioned the school district for her diploma.
The governor said he anticipates thousands of former students who failed the graduation tests will be petitioning their local school systems for their diplomas.
