Ga. makes improvement in jobless rankings

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgia made a little bit of improvement in the nationwide unemployment rankings, which were released by the US Labor Department Friday.<br /> <br /> After sitting in last place for the last couple of months, Georgia's jobless rate is now tied for the third lowest in the nation. California also has a 7.2 percent unemployment rate.<br /> <br /> Gov. Nathan Deal, in the waning days of his re-election bid, was critical of the data showing Georgia with the highest unemployment rate, wondering if the numbers were politically skewed to reflect badly on Republican-dominated states. Deal, a Republican, was re-elected Nov. 4, defeating Democratic and Libertarian challengers.<br /> <br /> Only Mississippi and Washington, D.C. had jobless rates higher than Georgia's in November.<br /> <br /> <br /> <i>(See the link below for a state-by-state ranking by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.)</i><br />
