JEFFERSON - Jackson Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) is now accepting applications for Bright Ideas, a new program aimed at funding "creative, innovative" classroom projects developed by teachers. This grant program provides funds to state certified educators in a public middle school in Jackson EMC's service area.
Teachers must submit their applications online by midnight Monday, June 1. Any applications received by the early bird deadline of Thursday, April 30th will be entered in a prize drawing for one of two- $250 Visa gift cards.
Educators can earn up to $2,000 for their classroom projects that would otherwise go unfunded. "We know budgets can hinder classroom projects and that educators dip into their own pockets to help pay for their creative lesson plans," said Chip Jakins, Jackson EMC president & CEO. "We think this program will energize the level of teaching, learning and the overall educational experience."
Projects must directly involve the students, provide a creative learning experience through innovative teaching methods, provide ongoing benefits to the students, create opportunities for teamwork and support the continuous improvement of education in Georgia. Grants will be judged by an outside panel of experts and grant winners will be recognized by the Bright Ideas Prize Patrol Brigade in October and November.
Bright Ideas originated with the North Carolina electric cooperatives as a way to fund innovative and creative lesson plans and has now been adopted by many cooperatives, including EMCs in Georgia and South Carolina.
