UNDATED - February's winter storms impacted more than just school days and travel. The Red Cross is seeking donors of both blood and platelets following the past two storm systems.
Spokeswoman Alicia Anger said that 36 blood drives in the state were canceled due to the winter weather.
"The resulted in approximately 1,372 blood and platelet donations that we haven't received since February 16 when all the issues started with the weather," said Anger.
Anger said that though the organization usually sees a decrease in donations during the winter months, the numbers were much lower than normal. "The numbers that we did see, that was a significant difference for what we typically see with the Red Cross."
Anger said donors for all types of blood and platelets were needed, especially O negative, A negative and B negative. Donations can be made by appointment at a Red Cross location and during a blood drive. Those who cannot donate can host a virtual blood drive.
"The need for blood does not get a snow day," Anger said.
