Kitchen fire displaces eight, injures one

GAINESVILLE - Hall County fire crews battled a fire at a duplex Friday afternoon that left two adults and six children displaced.

According to Interim Deputy Chief Chad Black, crews arrived at the home in the 3400 block of Carolyn Street around 1:30 Friday afternoon. Black says crews were able to knock the fire down quickly.

Two adults and six children were displaced because of the fire. They are staying with relatives until repairs are made. One occupant was injured with minor burns that did not require transport. The 2000 square foot home suffered about $20,000 worth of damage.

The origin of the fire appears to have started around the stove. Black said an occupant was cooking and described a loud pop and notice smoke above the stove.

The fire is still under investigation.
