GBI announces arrest in Tallulah Gorge State Park incident

TALLULAH FALLS - An incident at a state-owned home on Gilbert Gate at Tallulah Gorge State Park Thursday afternoon led to the arrest of one man.

Special Agent in Charge Kimberly Williams of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 8 office in Cleveland provided details of the call they received around 1:30 or 1:45.

"We received a call from the Tallulah Falls Police Department in reference to a domestic issue that occurred on state property there at the park," Williams said. "Because it was state property we were requested and we have taken Kevin Tatum into custody. He is being charged with false imprisonment and simple battery under Family Violence [Act]."

Tatum was booked in at the Habersham County Detention Center, Williams said.

"No state employees were involved, but the family of a state employee that lives there on the state property was," Williams said.

Asked for details of the incident, Williams said GBI is withholding specifics at this point.

"We are not going to release anything other than just the fact that there was a domestic incident," Williams said. "And as a result of it being on state property we were requested to investigate."

Tatum had left the residence when officers arrived.

Williams stopped short of calling the search for Tatum a manhunt.

"I wouldn't call it a manhunt," she said. "They were looking for Mr. Tatum after he left the residence. I think they just wanted to locate him and find out exactly what his side of it was and if he was ok."

Tallulah Falls School was placed on a precautionary lockdown during the incident.
