DAWSONVILLE - While authorities were keeping details quiet, they confirmed they dismantled a small methamphetamine lab in Dawson County Wednesday.

Dawson County Sheriff's Captain Tony Wooten said deputies and the Appalachian Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at the home on Hanging Dog Road last Thursday.

During the search, Wooten said authorities found evidence people were manufacturing meth at the residence off of Dawson Forest Road, west of Georgia 400.

During the following six days, Wooten said investigators developed evidence that led them back to the residence today (Wednesday). He said they found materials used in making meth.

That prompted caution on the part of authorities because of the dangerous nature of the meth making process.

"We used people with HAZMAT suits to go in and be able to dismantle and take it into evidence in a safe manner that doesn't cause any damage to officers that are on scene or any people around it," Wooten said.

He confirmed Wednesday afternoon that two people had been taken into custody in the last 24 hours in connection with the operation.

"There could be additional charges coming for additional suspects as well. At this point we've taken two into custody ," Wooten said.

While the investigation was ongoing, Wooten expected to release the suspect names Thursday.
