By Staff
GAINESVILLE - Gainesville attorney John G. Breakfield of Breakfield & Associates has been appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to serve as a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission.

The commission reviews applications and interviews candidates for open judge positions in Georgia's trial and appellate courts. After a review of the nominees for a post, the Commission makes its recommendations to Deal, who then makes the appointment.

Generally, judges are elected in Georgia. However, when a judge retires or resigns mid-term, the Governor is tasked with appointing a qualified person to complete the term.

Breakfield earned his B.A. from Wofford College, and his law degree from Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He resides in Flowery Branch with his wife and two children.
