WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgia's 9th District Congressman Doug Collins issued a statement following President Obama's speech Friday night, promising that the president will get push-back from the House of Representatives on an immigration plan.

"The majority of the People's House will fight this because it is wrong. It is political retribution under the false guise of compassion, and it is yet another abuse of power the branch of government closest to the people will have to resolve," said Collins.

In a prime time address to the nation, President Obama said he would use executive order to grant work permits to five million illegal immigrants, allowing them to avoid deportation.

"Executive action granting amnesty to millions of illegals is President Obama taking out his anger on the American people for rejecting his agenda through the due process of elections two weeks ago," said Collins, a Gainesville Republican.

"He's had six years to work with Congress, two of those years with his party in total control of Washington, on constructive, compassionate, and fair immigration reform," Collins said in his press statement.

President Obama plans a rally in Las Vegas Friday to bolster support for his plan, and the White House is enlisting the aid of immigrant advocacy groups, according to a report from the Associated Press.
