CORNELIA - Many drivers and passengers are not wearing their seatbelts on a regular basis.

A seatbelt check on the Georgia Highway 365 southbound ramp from Georgia Highway 105 (Business 441) near Cornelia Thursday afternoon confirmed that.

In 45 minutes, troopers from the Georgia State Patrol issued 15 seatbelt citations and issued seven warnings for improper use.

The check began at 1:30 and lasted until 2:15 p.m.
"I spotted for Senior Trooper Jason Stephens and Trooper Brady Galloway," said Sgt. 1st Class Chad Johnson, commander of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa. "MCCD Officer Kerry Mote assisted by having violators pull to the shoulder as I called out the vehicles and violators, while Sr. Trooper Stephens and Trooper Galloway were busy issuing citations."
