New transportation priority list developed for Gainesville-Hall Co.

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - An updated transportation project priority list has been developed for Gainesville-Hall County and will be presented to a committee of the Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization (GHMPO) next week.

The widening of Thompson Bridge Road from Price Road to Yellow Creek Road tops the revised list. Second, is the widening of Spout Springs Road from Hog Mountain Road to the Gwinnett County line. Third are improvements to the Jesse Jewell Parkway/John Morrow Parkway intersection. Rounding out the top five are intersection improvements at E.E. Butler Parkway at Athens Street and Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard and the widening of Athens Highway from Gillsville Highway to State Route 332 in Talmo.

In a memo to members of the GHMPO Technical Coordinating Committee (TCC), GHMPO Senior Transportation Planner Sam Baker says the updated priority list is "based upon your feedback at the October 15th meeting." But Baker adds that it is not broken down into short-term, mid-term, and long-term tiers. He says "such a tiered project list is being developed and will be provided to you by Monday, October 27, 2014, prior to the next TCC meeting." That meeting is scheduled Oct. 30 at 10:30 at the Hall County Government Center.

Baker points out that the Spout Springs Road widening project, ranked #2, reflects "both the enthusiastic community support for it and its relative readiness (with preliminary engineering and right-of-way dollars committed)."

Baker is recommending that the TCC approval both the "prioritization
methodology" and the updated project list when it meets next week.
