Georgia once again has nation's highest jobless rate

By Staff
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Numbers released by the United States Department of Labor Tuesday morning show that Georgia once again has the highest unemployment rate in the country.

Even though the jobless rate dropped two-tenths of a point in September to 7.9-percent, that slight decrease was not enough to push Georgia ahead of any other states when ranking joblessness. (See link below for a complete ranking list.)

Georgia's jobless numbers have been fodder for Democrat Jason Carter as he challenges incumbent Republic Nathan Deal for the governor's office.

State officials last month said they could not understand why Georgia's jobless rate was so high, considering the large number of jobs being created each month.
