Softball: Lady Falcons advance to 2nd round in 8-AAAAA; GHS eliminated

FLOWERY BRANCH -- The Flowery Branch girls softball team advanced to the second round of the Region 8-AAAAA tournament with a 16-5 win over rival Gainesville Tuesday in the play-in game.<br /> <br /> The loss for the Gainesville (17-11) ended the Lady Elephants' most successful season since switching to fast-pitch<br /> <br /> Lady Falcons' freshman pitcher Kara Kight pitched a complete-game to earn the win in the circle. <br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the offense got going early.<br /> <br /> Junior Shelby Griffin had a big day with a double, a two-run home run and three RBI for Flowery Branch. Senior Kelly Kahlert had four hits and scored four runs and sophomore Chloe Zoeller had three hits, two RBI, and scored twice for the Lady Falcons. <br /> <br /> Junior Maddie Hetzel had a double and three RBI. <br /> <br /> Flowery Branch next will travel to Heritage, Conyers Wednesday in a best-of-three series with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
