Lanier Tech students paint signs for Hall Co. fire station

FLOWERY BRANCH - Hall County Fire Station #5 has some new signage, courtesy of a group of students from Lanier Technical College.

Fire Chief Jeff Hood said the existing signs needed a facelift, so the firefighters at the station enlisted the help of Lanier Tech's Automotive Collision Repair Department.

"The metal signs, which were donated by Metals USA, were painted by the students at Lanier Tech, and we are very pleased with their work," said Hood.

Lanier Tech Instructor Damien Anderson said the partnership was also a positive experience for his students.

"This was definitely a win-win situation," Anderson said. "The fire station got their signs painted, my students had an opportunity to learn how to prepare metal for paint, and Lanier Tech received some positive exposure."

He said two experienced students worked on the project with two newer students, providing them an opportunity to practice their painting skills.

To thank the students for their help with the signs, the firefighters at Station #5 invited them over for a cookout Tuesday afternoon.

"I told my students that firemen are notorious for eating well, so they were excited to come out and eat with the crew," said Anderson.

In addition to the cookout, Hood said the afternoon's activities also included a ceremony to unveil the new signs and an opportunity for students to have their pictures taken in front of their work.

"We are fortunate to have such a rich business and educational community here," Hood said. "Hall County Fire Services is proud to partner with individuals within those communities as we work to serve Hall County citizens."
