Actor/singer James Darren to appear at Kollock Memorial Project kickoff in Helen

HELEN - Actor/singer James Darren is scheduled to appear at the Sept. 19 fundraiser in Helen for the John Kollock Memorial Project.<br /> <br /> The event will be held at the home of Jerry and Gayle Murdock in the Innsbruck Golf Club Community, Helen, where Darren will make a guest appearance and give a private concert. <br /> <br /> Darren starred in the 1959 film, "Gidget" along with Sandra Dee and Cliff Robertson in a story of a teenager's initiation into the California surf culture and her romance with a young surfer. <br /> <br /> He also had a role in the 1961 World War II film, "The Guns of Navarone." Darren had a regular role on the television police drama, "T.J. Hooker" from 1983 until 1986. Subsequently, Darren served as the director of a number of action-based television series including "Hunter," "The A-Team," "Nowhere Man" and dramas such as "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Melrose Place." <br /> <br /> As a recording artist, he released more than a dozen singles between 1959 and 1977.
