ATLANTA (AP) -- The National Weather Service says storms this week spawned a tornado that left a telltale path of destruction in north Georgia.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports ( http://on-ajc.com/1ttwS25 ) a weather survey team confirmed Friday that a tornado touched down Wednesday afternoon in Gilmer County near the Georgia-Tennessee state line. That's same day the Gainesville area was pounded by damaging storms. (See earlier story. Link below.)
Weather service meteorologist Carly Kobacik said the twister was on the lower end of the scale, likely an EF1. But it damaged trees along a path a mile long.
Kobacik said the survey team was still gathering details Friday.
