ATLANTA (AP) -- The state attorney general's office is asking a judge to deny a request for sanctions made by the former head of the state ethics commission who claims the office failed to turn over key documents in her case.
Stacey Kalberman earlier this year won her lawsuit claiming retaliation for investigating complaints against Gov. Nathan Deal. She's now arguing the state should have turned over emails and a memo documenting communication between Kalberman's replacement and Deal's top aides.
In a response Friday, attorneys for the state said they were unaware of the emails and determined the memo didn't qualify for discovery. They also say Kalberman's attorneys were aware of the communications after pre-trial depositions and could have called the aides to testify at trial.
A hearing has been set for Monday.
