Cherokee County puppy mill dogs ready to be adopted

CUMMING - Over 350 dogs seized in a puppy mill bust in Cherokee County earlier this year are ready to go to forever homes this weekend.<br /> <br /> The dogs and puppies were seized by the Cherokee County Marshals Office at a home near Cumming on July 16th. The animals were taken to the Cherokee County Animal Shelter as an emergency intake during the investigation.<br /> <br /> According to a release from the shelter, registration begins at 9 a.m. this Saturday at the Senior Center Building adjacent to the shelter. Only one dog can be adopted per household, and each dog has a $100 adoption fee that must be paid at registration. Families will be escorted the shelter in groups.<br /> <br /> "We've put in some time to develop a system that will make it easy on (adoptive families, the staff and the animals," explained Sue Garcia, Director of the Cherokee County Animal Shelter, regarding the large number of canines being available for adoption.<br /> <br /> "We've broken it down into steps to avoid having to stand in line," Garcia added.<br /> <br /> Local businesses and groups that have supported the shelter during the emergency effort will be available while families wait to meet the dogs<br /> <br /> "The community support has been phenomenal, words can't even describe the outpouring of support," Garcia added.<br /> <br /> More information is available on the Cherokee County Animal Shelter's Facebook page, linked below.
