Gainesville, Atlanta, Macon break record low temperatures

ATLANTA (AP) -- Unusually cool air helped Gainesville, Atlanta and Macon break records for low temperatures.<br /> <br /> The temperature dropped to 59 at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville Wednesday morning, breaking the old record for the date of 60 which was set in 1969. <br /> <br /> National Weather Service forecasters say the low of 60 degrees in Atlanta around 5 a.m. Wednesday broke the previous record of 61 degrees for the date. The previous record low for July 30 in Atlanta was set in 1936.<br /> <br /> Macon hit a low of 61 degrees around 5 a.m. Wednesday, breaking a previous record low of 62 degrees for July 30. Macon's previous record low for the date was set in 1920.<br /> <br /> Temperatures fell even lower in the north Georgia mountains. A U.S. Forest Service weather station recorded a low of 48 degrees shortly after 5 a.m. in Union County.
