Fox tests positive for Rabies in Gainesville

A person recently had contact with a rabid fox in the 900 block of Jesse Jewell Parkway in Gainesville.

Hall County officials said the fox was sent to the Georgia Public Health Lab Virology Section in Decatur for testing.

Hall County Animal Services was notified of the positive test on May 7. 

Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid animal was located.

Those who live in the area or see an animal acting abnormally should contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or during non-working hours call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.

Animal owners are advised to vaccinate their pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville. Call the shelter at 678-450-1587 to schedule an appointment.
