Authorities are investigating after a Gainesville woman was found dead from an alleged hit-and-run earlier this month.

Hall County Sheriff's Office officials confirmed Monday that Teresa Marie Bruce, age 37, was hit by a vehicle on the night of Thursday, April 18 in the Gainesville area. An exact location has not been reported as of Tuesday morning.

Bruce later died from her injuries almost a week later on April 24 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Nurses there then reportedly contacted the sheriff's office.

"Persons known to Ms. Bruce alleged that she could have been assaulted prior to the hit-and-run and the injuries sustained in the assault contributed to her death. However, that information has not been confirmed by investigators," A release from the sheriff's office said.

Bruce's body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Crime Lab to determine her cause of death. The Georgia State Patrol has confirmed that they are also investigating Bruce's death.
